QUESTION: dear doctor.
I would like to now which suplement for the skin after loss a fat
thanks for your answser,
ANSWER: ANSWER: The skin is the largest organ of the body. After fat loss the skin and underlying tissues will take time to bounce back into shape.
With a significant amount of fat loss it's possible that there is too much excess skin that the only option is surgical removal. Factors like genetics, age and your overall health can play a role. Probably the best recommendation for skin tone is a combination of resistance and cardio exercises. A trainer at your local gym should be able to work with you on this. In terms of supplements, there is no product that you can take that will be able to shrink the skin in a healthy manner. I would recommend the following products to keep your skin at its peak health and with time should get back to normal tone:
Max EFA - contains the essential fatty acids to support optimal skin health.
Max Nutraceutical Hair, Skin & Nails Multi - contains all the essential nutrients to support healthy skin, including vitamins A, C and biotin, the trace minerals zinc and copper along with natural organic MSM sulfur to support skin health.
Additionally, make sure to drink plenty of fluid throughout the day as your skin contains a high percentage of water.

QUESTION: I'm training for a 200 mile bike race. Will ribose powder help with my training.
Thanks
:)
ANSWER: ANSWER: Ribose is a naturally occurring 5-carbon sugar found in all living cells which functions to resynthesize adenosine triphosphate (ATP) in our body. ATP is called the "energy currency" of all cells and provides the necessary energy for muscle contraction and other essential cellular functions. No other compound or molecule can replace ribose in making ATP and its other important metabolic processes. There have been a fair number of published studies in evaluating ribose supplementation and sports performance and body composition. Most have focused on high intensity or anaerobic types of exercise (e.g., cycle sprints) and power lifting comparing ribose to a placebo (dummy pill) with mixed results or showing no significant benefit. There have been few, if any, well controlled published studies on ribose supplementation and endurance events like a 200 mile bike race so there is no research to draw any conclusions. Hopefully, a ribose and endurance study will be conducted in the near future and published. Based on the interpretation of the current research, ribose may have its benefits but only when combined with other ingredients like creatine and ATP as compared to using it as a stand alone ingredient. I would still recommend using ribose for your training and combining it with creatine, ATP, alpha lipoic acid and magnesium. Magnesium is a trace mineral that is required by enzymes that actually make and recycle ATP. I am a huge fan of this mineral and its benefits in energy production. We have recently launched a product called Cx3 an elite formula featuring multiple sources of the finest creatines available in the world including, CreaPure, Creatine MagnaPower (Magnesium Creatine Chelate), and Creatine Pyruvate. Additionally, we have added the powerful supportive benefits of Peak ATP, Ribose, Alpha Lipoic Acid, Taurine, Cinnamon Extract, Biotin and Vitamin C. I would give this formula a try in your training and I am fairly confident it will help you.

QUESTION: I am interested in taking the Femme Lean product. I have been an athlete my entire life and I don't want to put anything into my body that is harmful or will effect me in a negative way. Most of the research I have read doesn't have any negatives on the product but I am on the birth control Yaz and don't want it to effect it either. Will the Femme Lean be beneficial or no?
ANSWER: ANSWER: All the ingredients in Femme Lean & Balance have an established safety and efficacy record supported by published scientific evidence. Since you appear healthy and active I would not expect any harmful effects of using the product on your overall health. Regarding your question about the interactions with ingredients in Femme Lean & Balance and your birth control pill Yaz, I would not be overly concerned. There is some information that soy isoflavones may displace or competitively inhibit the effects of estrogens at the receptor site, but the published evidence is very limited and not proven. The soy isoflavones in Femme Lean & Balance are naturally derived from soy and standardized to contain 40% isoflavones. The levels per serving would not be great enough to have a negative effect on your birth control pill. The licorice root extract is also naturally derived and deglycyrrhized (DGL) which means that the potential harmful bioactive ingredient, glycyrrhizic acid, has been removed. Theoretically, licorice containing glycyrrhizic acid may interfere with estrogen, but this has not been well studied in healthy women and inconclusive. In my opinion, the naturally derived ingredients found in Femme Lean & Balance should be safe for you to use. If you have any additional medical concerns you can print the Femme Lean & Balance Product Data Sheet from the Max Muscle website (www.maxmuscle.com) and discuss this information with your doctor.

QUESTION: How do Cleanse and Lean, and other similar cleanse products, work? I know they help with bowel regularity for better absorption; and help remove excess water. Can you briefly explain these two processes in the body? Does Cleanse and Lean affect absorption of nutrients while actively in your body?
ANSWER: ANSWER: Many individuals use Cleanse & Lean for intestinal cleansing, detoxification, weight loss and removing excess water. Cleanse & Lean contains natural laxatives such as Cascara sagrada, Senna leaf powder, Fennel, Psyllium, Aloe vera and other natural herbs to promote elimination of fecal matter from the lower bowel and promote overall digestive health. Cascara and senna are very effective natural laxatives that have a stimulating effect on the intestine to induce bowel movements or loosen stools. On the other hand, psyllium husk powder in the formula acts as a bulk-producing agent to help soften stools with intestinal water to ease elimination. The advantage of eliminating fecal mass from the bowel is that it helps flatten the stomach and lower abdomen thus inducing the weight loss effect. Cleanse & Lean is designed to be part of a comprehensive cleansing or detoxification program. This type of program supports overall digestive health, weight loss and mild water elimination promoting regularity. It is generally recommended to use an overall elimination or detoxification program four times per year or at the beginning of each season. It is generally recommended to use Cleanse & Lean for the minimal amount of time to see the desired results and not to exceed the recommended dose. As a cautionary note, Cleanse & Lean should not be used if diarrhea develops, abdominal pain or any abnormal bowel function.
For the overall program, Cleanse & Lean is recommended to be used with our other products for healthy digestion, detoxification, GI motility, immune and microflora balance. Here are my suggestions:
Max Nutraceuticals Fiber Complex - contains a multi source fiber complex of both soluble and insoluble fibers like oat fiber, guar gum and psyllium husk fiber. This product provides the additional bulk fiber to ramp up intestinal motility for elimination of fecal waste.
Max Nutraceuticals Enzyme Complex - contains a broad range of digestive enzymes and natural enhancing digestive herbs. A great product to assist with complete digestion and absorption of foods.
Max Nutraceuticals Immune Probiotic Quatro - contains four difference strains of beneficial probiotic or "good" bacterial. This product promotes microbial defense for healthy environment of the colon.
Max Glutamine - the most abundant amino acid in the body, promotes everyday intestinal tissue repair by supporting the intestinal membrane and immune. A commonly overlooked nutrient for gut health is glutamine. Glutamine supports gut enterocytes, protects lymphocytes and gut barrier function. Enhances gut mucosal growth, repair and function.
Max Green Synergy - an all natural, comprehensive and proprietary blends of greens, antioxidants, fruits, and fiber ingredients. There is virtually a treasure chest of phyto (plant) nutrients containing hundreds, if not, thousands of bioactive compounds to stimulate cleansing and support optimal health and wellness.

QUESTION: The short form of my question (for you to post): What nutritional supplements do you suggest to relieve tendonitis?
The fully explanation of my concern:
I have been having mild tendonitis in my right wrist for a little over two months from my strength training efforts. I do not believe that I am training excessively (1-2 hrs per week of resistance training, plus 1-2 hrs per week cardio) and weights are usually at a level for me to do 12-20 reps, and its been in a partly healed state sometimes slightly better or slightly worse from day to day. Also I have a nagging posterior shin splint (3 months) that could be tendon related as well and have been approved by my doctor to restart a limited running program.
What do you suggest, nutrition-wise, to help healing and to improve my tendons' ability to handle a reasonable amount of exercise comfortably? Should I be taking Glucosamine/Chondroitin/MSM (and if so, which form) for this? I just started taking fish oil 3.6 grams per day of EPA/DHA for its anti-imflamatory characteris, but too soon to know if its helpful. (I am avoiding common over the counter pain killers such as Ibuproffen because of Chrohns disease.)
I am a 42 year old male, not overweight and already at a medium to decent fitness level.
Thanks
ANSWER: Answer: Healthy tendons are made up of connective tissue composed mainly of collagen proteins and inorganic nutrients like copper, manganese and calcium. Tendons primarily function to connect muscles to bones. When tendons are overused or become injured they go through an initial inflammatory process called tendonitis ("itis" means inflammation). Healing cannot occur until the inflammatory process is subsided so nutrients that support reducing inflammation are initially important. Once inflammation is reduced then the healing or rebuilding of tissue process can begin followed by a process called remodeling. Therefore, there is specific nutrient support for each phase of tendonitis: the inflammatory phase, the healing or rebuilding phase and the remodeling phase.
Below are suggestions to support these three phases of tendonitis. If the product is from the Max Muscle Sports Nutrition line, I will use the MMSN letters and if the product is from the Max Nutraceutical line, I will use the MN letters. The product name follows these letters below:
To support the inflammatory process:
MN: Concentrated Omega-3 - omega-3 fatty acids have been shown to be very effective in promoting a healthy inflammatory response.
MN: Inflatrol(TM) - the addition of turmeric, quercetin, bormelain, papain, and green tea extract addresses the free radicals produced during the inflammatory process
MN: Vitamin C - powerful antioxidant to address free radicals produced during the inflammatory phase
Drink plenty of water. Keep on this program until the cardinal signs of inflammation have subsided which may take several days. These include swelling, redness, pain, heat, and loss of function.
To support healing, rebuilding, and remodeling phases:
MN: Mineral Tabs - provides key trace minerals for the rebuilding of collagen connective tissue, including copper, zinc, manganese, calcium and vitamin D
MN: Vitamin C - key vitamin to rebuild and cross-link collagen
MMSN: Joint Relief - provides glucosamine sulfate, chondroitin sulfate, and MSM as key building raw materials for rebuilding connective tissue collagen
MMSN: Amino Max - provides key amino acids to support the rebuilding of proteins in connective tissue collagen
Drink plenty of water. Keep on this program for several days to weeks as tissue rebuilding and remodeling is a slow process. Additionally, you may have to consult a licensed healthcare practitioner with expertise in this area to provide massage, flexibility, strengthening exercises and other modalities.

QUESTION: I'm looking to change my workout supplements from a creatine and protein to something a little stronger. Last time I was in max muscle they started me on the creatine and protein and said after that cycle maybe we would try something different, I think it was a pro-hormone or testosterone???. I’m interested in trying this but as a biomedical student I know the negatives of testosterone feedback, kidney, liver damage, and secondary effects. What can I try that will give me the boost without damaging my body.
ANSWER: ANSWER: First, I would not drop the protein and creatine from your supplement regime. These two products are part of the foundation to maintain muscle mass and provide the building blocks for muscle growth. What I would recommend is to add a product from our natural testosterone support group. Currently, we offer three products, including Max ZMA, Max Tribustak and Anabol EXT. It is important to emphasize these products are not prohormone drugs that could result in negative feedback inhibition or the shutting down production of hormones within the body or any damage to internal organs, so you don't have to worry. They support and optimize the natural testosterone production mechanisms within the body. Additionally, since they are naturally based there is no requirement to cycle these products.
Max ZMA contains a science-based formula with zinc monomethionine/aspartate, magnesium aspartate and vitamin B6. These nutrients are essential for promoting maximum testosterone support. Our Max Tribustak contains Tribulus terrestris (standardized to contain 40% protodioscin). Tribulus terrestris supports the production of normal luteinizing hormone (LH) produced by the pituitary gland. LH stimulates your testes to produce testosterone. Tribustak also contains dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA), Vitex agnus castus (4:1 extract), Avena sativa (10:1 extract) and Epimedium sagatatum (4:1 extract) to optimize testosterone production. The final product in the group is Anabol EXT. Anabol EXT is a totally advanced and scientifically-based product designed to support natural testosterone while blocking unwanted estrogen. Anabol EXT contains both Zinc aspartate and Magnesium aspartate, both essential minerals in the production of testosterone and found in the Max ZMA product. In addition, Anabol EXT delivers three potent proprietary blends. The Anabol EXT Male Performance Proprietary Blend (MPPB) contains Testofen, a powerful and clinically proven ingredient shown to increase muscle mass, increase levels of free testosterone by 98%. The Anabol EXT Anabolic Proprietary Blend (APB) contains the premier ingredient LJ100 ActiveAli standardized to contain bioactive glycosaponins for maximum testosterone support. Tribulus terrestris is also found in the formula so it contains the same ingredient found in Tribustak. Anabol EXT also contains Rhaponticum carthamoides delivering 20-Hydroxy Beta-ecdysterone, a potent protein partitioning agent and muscle supporting compound that stimulates the body's ability to utilize protein for muscle growth. 5-Methyl-7-Methoxy Isoflavone supports protein synthesis and reduces cortisol levels from normal stress. The Anabol EXT Anti-Estrogen Proprietary Blend (AEB) contains three ingredients all aimed at decreasing the conversion of testosterone to estrogen (anti-aromatase) and the effects of estrogen at the receptor sites. These include Red clover extract (standardized to contain 8% isoflavones), DIM (diindolymethane) and Chrysin.
Give any one of these Max Muscle hormone support products a try. They are designed to work in conjunction with your protein and creatine supplements.

QUESTION: does taking your product max anabol, increase cholestrol
ANSWER: ANSWER: The short answer is no. During the research and development phase of formulation we carefully evaluate each ingredient for safety (safe for humans to consume), quality (excellent characteristics), purity (free of contaminants) and effectiveness (produces desired effect) used in either formula of Max Anabol or Anabol EXT. There is no published scientific evidence of any of these ingredients increasing cholesterol in humans. Additionally, we have not received any reports of increased cholesterol levels in individuals using either of these products.
The majority of cholesterol is manufactured in the liver. Factors that can increase cholesterol levels in the blood include heredity, age and gender, being overweight, lack of exercise, having diabetes, poor diet and other causes. Dietary factors include a high intake of saturated fats, trans fats, cholesterol and lack of fiber. Having your total cholesterol, LDL ("bad form"), HDL ("good form") and triglycerides checked periodically is very important. I would also check CRP (C-Reactive Protein) levels as this is an indication of inflammation in blood vessels. You should check with your doctor on having this done. We offer many products that support healthy cholesterol levels which include EPA, CoQ10, Plant Sterols, Garlic, Folic Acid, Niacin and others.

QUESTION: I have been out of my sport for a quite a few months and I am just getting back up to speed and money is a little tight due to some past debts. I have purchased CX3 and want to know if I can switch back to creatine monohydrate after my muscles reach saturation with the CX3, and still get the same results as CX3.
ANSWER: ANSWER: If you have gone through both the "loading" and "maintenance" phases using Cx3 then your muscles should be at a saturation level with creatine to experience the benefits. It would be perfectly fine to switch back to Max Creatine to maintain your creatine levels if your budget does not allow you to buy Cx3. Our Max Creatine is the highest quality and pure micro-crystalline creatine monohydrate you can get. To assure this, each lot of raw material received from our supplier is tested to verify the certificate of analysis (COA) to be over 99% pure by high pressure liquid chromatography (HPLC) to support the 5 gm per serving label claim. The product is also produced in a current good manufacturing practices (cGMP) facility as with all of our products. As you know, our Cx3 takes creatine to the next level with multiple sources of the finest creatines available in the world including, CreaPure, Creatine MagnaPower (Magnesium Creatine Chelate), and Creatine Pyruvate in addition to the powerful supportive benefits of Peak ATP, Ribose, Alpha Lipoic Acid, Taurine, Cinnamon Extract, Biotin and Vitamin C. I would characterize Cx3 as the "jet fuel" of creatines. When your budget allows, I would hope that you will switch back to Cx3 as your muscles should respond to this more advanced product. Another consideration is that with Cx3, you should be able to use less product per day, either less than 1 scoop per day or a serving every other day to get the desired results. Cx3 could then be a better value to you compared to the Max Creatine. Either way you are getting great creatine products.

QUESTION: I'm on Levothroid medication for a thyroid issue What type of energy enhancers can I take? I work out 1hr + a day, five days a week and I'm feeling run down.
ANSWER: ANSWER: For the sake of answering your question, I will assume you and your doctor have fine tuned the effective dose of your thyroid medicine. It is possible your feeling run down could be related to your overall thyroid function. For someone who works out at least 1 hour per day, 5 days per week you are placing a lot of demands on energy metabolism and it's important that you keep yourself fueled throughout the day and before, during and following your workouts. In terms of product suggestions centered around your workouts, our Full Blown Extreme product is designed for the pre-workout. I would suggest adding a serving of our Iso-Extreme whey protein to any of the Full Blown Extreme flavors which will also provide you with the necessary protein for extended workouts. Following your workout, taking a serving of Max ARM will help in recovery and make sure your muscles are replenished with fuel. Make sure to drink plenty of water throughout the day and get the necessary rest your body needs.
For optimal thyroid metabolism, health and energy I recommend our Quadra Cuts Advanced Thyroid Support formula. This product is a non-stimulating thermogenic formula that provides targeted vitamins, minerals and standardized herbal extracts to nourish and support healthy thyroid cell metabolism. The product contains a potent combination of maximum strength Guggul extract(standardized to contain 98% Z and E guggulsterones with 6.25 mg guggulsterones), Coleus forskohlii extract, (standardized to contain 10% forskolin), Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera) root extract (standardized to contain 2.5% withanolides), and Bauhinia purpurea extract (12:1). Ashwaganda root extract has been used for thousands of years in India as a general health tonic and energizer. Another important part of thyroid hormone production, function and metabolism are the nutrients L-tyrosine, iodine and selenium. Thyroid hormone is actually L-tyrosine with the addition of 3 or 4 iodine molecules hence the name T3 or T4. Two major sources of iodine in this formula are Bladderwrack and Kelp Powder. Quadra Cuts Thyroid Support provides 450 mcg (300% Daily Value) of the essential trace mineral iodine. Selenium is a component of selenoproteins which play an essential role in thyroid hormone metabolism and gland function. Since you are taking Levothyroid make sure to provide this information to your doctor especially the information regarding iodine. Make sure to discuss this supplement with your doctor prior to use.
There are several other suggestions in the Max Muscle line to help support your energy levels. Our Ultra 100 is a great tasting liquid multivitamin containing over 100 vitamin & minerals, antioxidants and amino acids with extra high vitamin potency. The high potency B complex including 200 mcg (3333% DV) of vitamin B12 should help support your energy demands. Another product suggestion is our Max Nutraceutical CoQ10, 100 mg. CoQ10 is essential for the production in ATP energy in every cell of the body. You may also want to try our Barracuda energy shot which is designed for an extreme energy rush and enhanced mental focus.
Levothyroid may decrease the absorption of iron, so you may have to take a separate iron supplement. The Max Nutraceutical Chelated Iron Tabs taken daily with food would be the supplement I would recommend. Check this out with your doctor.

QUESTION: Dr. Harvey I work @ Max Muscle Clairemont and a prospect called and asked what products we have that are NOT banned by the NCAA. The NCAA is not clear on their list and it isn't clear if they are lockstep with the WADA list. I do know that synephrine (bitter orange) is banned.
Thanks, Dan
ANSWER: The current NCAA Banned-Drug Classes List of 2008-2009 is available at the following website: www.ncaa.org/health-safety. If you check the List you can see that synephrine (citrus aurantium, zhi shi, bitter orange is listed under the Stimulants section. Therefore, synephrine would be banned. It's interesting to me that the drugs phenylephrine and pseudoephedrine are not banned yet synephrine from natural citrus fruit is. Pseudoephedrine is the active ingredient in the over the counter sinus product Sudafed and related cold care products. Under the Anabolic Agents section of the NCAA List DHEA is also banned. Based on the current NCAA List, the following Max Muscle products would not be allowable:
Tribustak - contains DHEA
EnerX - contains citrus aurantium (Advantra Z) SuppreX - contains citrus aurantium (Advantra Z) ThermX - contains citrus aurantium (Advantra Z) ThermXX - contains citrus aurantium (Advantra Z) Quadra Cuts Extreme - contains citrus aurantium (Advantra Z) Max Lean - contains citrus aurantium (Advantra Z) De-Lite - contains citrus aurantium (Advantra Z)
The NCAA also bans caffeine at high levels (urine concentrations exceeding 15 micrograms/ml). Many of our products do contain caffeine from either natural herbal sources (e.g., guarana, green tea or yerbe
mate) or anhydrous sources. An athlete should be careful not to exceed recommended levels for our supplements.
It is very important and the responsibility for any collegiate athlete to check with their coaching staff regarding the status all dietary supplement ingredients.

QUESTION: should i take both an amino acid formula and a bcaa formula or one versus the other?
ANSWER: ANSWER: Max Muscle offers a variety of focused amino acid products including, Amino Max, Max BCAA, Max Glutamine, Glutamine Chewables, Max GlutaMatrix, and XTR. Our Amino Max product provides the complete spectrum of all 20 amino acids, including the beneficial branched-chain amino acids (BCAA) leucine, isoleucine and valine. The BCAA are known to be highly concentrated in muscles (approximately 35%) and have been shown to serve as important fuel sources for skeletal muscles during periods of high-intensity exercise. The BCAA improve protein and nitrogen balance in muscle, preserve muscle glycogen reserves, suppress protein catabolism, and overall have an anti-catabolic effect. The BCAA can be effectively used for the pre-workout supporting energy fuels needed for high intensity and endurance exercise. For the post-workout, BCAA function to support rapid recovery, muscle anabolism and anti-catabolic effects. Additionally, the BCAA stimulate the production of the amino acids alanine and glutamine.
Each serving of Amino Max would provide approximately 362 milligrams or .362 grams of the amino acid leucine, 148 milligrams or .148 grams of isoleucine, and 153 milligrams or .153 grams of valine. So the total amount of the BCAA in Amino Max is 663 mg within each serving of 6 capsules. For higher concentrations of the BCAA we have our Max BCAA and XTR formulas. Max BCAA delivers 2.4 grams or 2,400 milligrams of the branched-chain amino acids per serving of 4 tablets or 3.6 times more than Amino Max. The highest potency of BCAA are found in XTR. XTR is in a powder form that allows for this higher amount. Each serving (Approx 14.3 grams) delivers 7 grams or 7,000 milligrams of the BCAA or 10 times greater amounts of the BCAA than in Amino Max. Higher concentrations of the BCAA, in proportion to body weight, may be beneficial for more efficient recovery following intense exercise and may promote enhanced protein synthesis in muscles.
So here is the summary:
Amino Max - .663 grams of BCAA per serving
Max BCAA - 2.4 grams of BCAA per serving
XTR - 7 grams of BCAA per serving
Depending on your exact needs, you can select any one of our BCAA products. It is also perfectly safe to combine any of the formulas.

QUESTION: hello my name is riley and i had a question for you about protein supplements. i work out in my garage 6 days a week and i was wondering what protein supplement should i take that will be best for me after i work out that will build muscle but not make me gain weight
ANSWER: ANSWER: Since you are very serious with your 6 days of the week workouts, you need to expand your thinking of a post-workout formula to more than just a protein supplement. Research over the past few years has now confirmed that "protein timing" with both protein and carbohydrates immediately following exercise is far more effective than just protein alone for recovery and building muscle. Also, there are now important ingredients that function to stimulate protein synthesis at the genetic level which would provide an additional benefit to you. With this in mind, I would like to suggest you considering our newest post-workout innovation called Max ARM or Anabolic Recovery Matrix. Aside from the need to replenish with high quality protein, enriched with the branched-chain amino acids and glutamine following an intense workout, your body also needs fluids, the complete spectrum of electrolytes along with carbohydrates to replenish muscle glycogen. These support optimal muscle rebuilding process and minimize muscle protein breakdown. Max ARM is actually a product that represents 5 of our current formulations, including Triple Whey Protein, GlutaMatrix, Max ACM, XTR and Cx3.
To support protein synthesis and nitrogen retention, each serving of Max ARM provides 28 grams of the highest quality blend of whey protein isolate (WPI) and whey protein concentrate (WPC) available. Additionally, recent scientific evidence suggests that adding high quality protein enhances glycogen repletion in muscles which is critical for rapid recovery. To support "protein timing", each serving of Max ARM provides 32 grams of multi-source carbohydrates with rapid to extended absorption rates including, waxy maize starch (amylopectin), maltodextrin, fructose and dextrose. Max ARM contains the Muscle Akt/mTOR and p70 S6k Activator Blend. Muscle Akt/mTOR and p70 S6k kinases are muscle enzyme activators of protein synthesis at the genetic level and supported with the addition of the branched-chain amino acids (BCAA) along with arginine, citrulline malate and the same proprietary blend found in Cx3 including CreaPure, Creatine MagnaPower, and Creatine Pyruvate. The BCAAs (leucine, isoleucine and valine), particularly leucine, have anabolic effects on protein synthesis, muscle cell growth and decreasing the rate of protein breakdown (degredation). Max ARM contains the functional glutamine peptides found in our Gluta Matrix product, including the Gluta-Tri Triple Fusion Blend containing L-glutamine and glutamine peptides. For maximum muscle cell carbohydrate enhancement, Max ARM provides the GLUT4 Activator Blend with banaba leaf extract (1% corosolic acid) and Promilin containing the bioactive amino acid 4-hydroxyisoleucine. Promilin functions to potentiate the action of insulin resulting in complete post-exercise replenishment of carbohydrates in the muscles and promoting increases in muscle mass and strength. Additionally, research has demonstrated that corosolic acid, a triterpenoid compound, facilitates glucose transport within cells by stimulating glucose transporter isoform 4 translocation (GLUT4). By activating GLUT4 this assures maximum carbohydrate utilization by muscles following exercise. Finally, Max ARM contains the Heat Shock Protein (HSP) Activator Blend. HSP are molecular chaperones that aid in the transport of proteins throughout the cell's various compartments to support and maximize protein synthesis.
As you can see the science of post-workout supplementation and muscle building has evolved to more than taking in a protein powder. Don't get me wrong, we have world class protein supplements, but if you are serious about post-workout recovery as you are with your workouts then you should give Max ARM a try.

QUESTION: What are the best supplements for my 14 year old, athletic son to take to increase his weight and strength?
ANSWER: First, I will cover some general nutrition concepts and then supplements. In terms of daily caloric needs, your 14 year old son should get somewhere between 2,500 calories if he is fairly active to 3,200 calories per day if he is very active. Emphasis should be on a healthy and varied diet and try to keep the percentages of carbohydrates to around 55%, protein to around 20% and fat to around 25%. He should eat 4 to 6 smaller meals per day. That would be his 3 main meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner) along with several snacks. The idea is that smaller and more frequent eating supports a positive nitrogen balance which will help him increase his weight and strength.
Emphasis should be on complex carbohydrates rather than a lot of simple sugars and sweets. Examples of complex carbohydrates are foods like whole-grain breads, cereals, oatmeal, spaghetti and other pastas, brown rice, legumes (beans, peas and lentils) and other foods. When he is competing, he can bump the carbohydrates up to 65% and reduce the protein and fats accordingly. In terms of protein, a simple rule to follow is 0.8 grams of protein per pound of body weight. So if he weighs 100 pounds, his daily protein intake should be 80 grams which would be divided up throughout the day. Some examples of high protein foods include lean meats, lean chicken (white), lean turkey (white), low fat/non-fat milk, yogurt, low fat cheeses, eggs and peanut butter.
Protein should be consumed with each of his meals so it's important to combine both carbohydrates and protein together. Fats are also important and the emphasis should be on health fats coming from oils, avocados, nuts, seeds, cold water fish like tuna and salmon.
Recommendations for supplements are basic. He should have a protein shake for his between meal snacks. I would recommend our Maxpro as a start. We have many great flavors to choose from and I am sure he will find one he likes best. As protein and carbohydrates should be consumed together, he could add a scoop of our Carbomax (about 20 grams of carbohydrates)or scoop of ACM (about 20 gm carbohydrates). He could also add a scoop of glutamine (5 grams). If he needs more calories he could try our Gourmet Gainer which provides much more of carbohydrates and protein per serving. Added to non-fat or 2% milk further increases these nutrients. It's important that he have a daily comprehensive multivitamin and mineral supplement. Our Max Complete or Vit-Acell would be good choices for this. Finally, make sure he consumes plenty of fluids throughout the day with an emphasis on good plain water.

QUESTION: I am just now trying Max ZMA and I read on the bottle that I am supposed to take it at night before bed on an empty stomach. I also see that Calcium supplements may interfere with this product.
1.) Is taking it on anything but an empty stomach going to interfere (be it food or supplements)?
2.) Can I take it during the day between meals to essentially have an empty stomach?
ANSWER: ANSWER: Max ZMA is an effective dietary supplement to support healthy anabolic hormone (e.g., testosterone and IGF-1) production to promote muscle strength, endurance and lean muscle mass. It's a simple formula containing the synergistic benefits of zinc (10 mg/capsule), magnesium (150 mg/capsule) and vitamin B6 (3.5 mg/capsule). For enhanced absorption and bioavailability, zinc is provided in the monomethionine and aspartate chelate and the magnesium in the aspartate chelate. Studies have shown that dietary calcium from either foods or from supplements can compete for the absorption of zinc, therefore reducing the amount of zinc being absorbed. This explains the recommendation of avoiding calcium when taking Max ZMA. Additionally, foods that contain phytates (phytic acid) like whole cereal grains, nuts, and legumes (beans, peas and lentils) can also bind up the zinc in the intestine making it unavailable. Calcium has no negative effect on the magnesium or vitamin B6. Therefore, for maximum absorption take Max ZMA on an empty stomach either before bedtime or during the day between meals.

QUESTION: I cannot drink protein shakes, they come up faster than they go down. I do not want to do anything with soy because of the estrogen. What alternatives are there?
ANSWER: ANSWER: This is a very interesting condition as you state and I will assume that it only happens when you consume protein shakes. First, I would recommend you discussing this reflux situation with your physician to rule out any condition that could be more serious. If you are fine in this area then I would suggest the following strategy. First, stay away from the whey protein isolates (WPIs) like Iso Extreme since they digest very quickly. Next, try our Triple Whey protein in the Vanilla flavor mixing up about half a scoop. Drink the shake slowly preferably with a straw. Also, make sure to drink the shake when you are relaxed, so not right after a workout and not on an empty stomach or with any caffeine or other energy stimulants products. Another product that may work for you is our Gourmet protein. Gourmet is much more concentrated with added carbohydrates, fats and vitamins and minerals than our Triple Whey protein. The super rich and creamy shake may prevent the reflux from occurring. If these suggestions do not work for you, try adding the Triple Whey powder to yogurt, in oatmeal or pancake mix. If you strike out on these suggestions then give our Amino Max product a try.
Amino Max provides high quality and pure amino acids derived from whey protein in any easy to swallow capsule.
I also wanted to address your concern about soy and estrogen. The totality of published scientific evidence indicates that soy, soyfoods or soy isoflavones have no significant effect on increasing estrogen levels in males or decreasing testosterone levels. I know this concern has been around for a long time, but the evidence just does not support it. Soy protein is perfectly fine for males to consume.

QUESTION: im 20 years old, i have been weight training for a year and a half and now want to start taking supplements and getting a lot bigger. what should i take and when thanks
ANSWER: ANSWER: My recommendation to you is our foundational Core 4 program of supplements. The Core 4 program includes one of our superior liquid multivitamin & mineral supplements like Ultra 100 or Vit-Acell. Both are high potency and comprehensive supplements for the most demanding athlete and supplies the essential nutrients to support muscle growth and recovery. Next is one of our premier protein supplements. We have many options in our collection and I would recommend our MAXPRO or Gourmet Gainer. Both are based on whey protein fractions which have been shown to be the most effective protein for improving body composition, particularly when combined with resistance exercise.
Additionally, whey proteins are rich in the branched-chain amino acids (BCAAs), especially the amino acid leucine, which is a powerful anabolic nutrient. For the daily amount of protein, a good rule of thumb is 1 gram of protein per pound of body weight per day. Protein timing is a proven strategy and the recommendation is for multiple servings of protein throughout the day or 3 to 5 hours between servings. Add the additional servings as a protein shake about 60 minutes before your workout and again about 30 to 60 minutes after your workout. A final serving could be added between meals or before bed. The Core 4 includes one of our glutamine formulas like Max Glutamine or Gluta Matrix to promote muscle repair, recovery, immune and intestinal health. Finally, our Core 4 includes Max EFA, an all natural essential fatty acid complex. Aside from the timing of the protein, the other supplements can be taken anytime during the day. I am confident you will find the Core 4 products to be an effective strategy along with your weight training program.

QUESTION: how should i use amino max for best results?
ANSWER: ANSWER: Amino Max is our blend of concentrated and high quality amino acids delivered in a capsule form so it is a convenient supplement to take if you are out and about or traveling. The only calories come from the amino acids, delivering all the nine essential amino acids in addition to the non-essential amino acids. It is a good source of glutamine in addition to the branched chain amino acids (BCAA) leucine, isoleucine and valine which are primarily used as an energy source during intense exercise. There are no calories from fat or carbohydrate and no added binders or fillers. Amino Max is a beneficial supplement for muscle support and growth, recovery and immune health. The amino acids are derived from milk proteins so anyone with food allergies to dairy should be aware of this. There is also an ingredient derived from lecithin (soy) so anyone allergic to soy products also needs to know this. For best results, take 6 capsules at least 2 times per day and up to 4 times per day depending on your training intensity level. Amino Max can be taken with or without food. You can easily spike a meal that is low in protein and vegetarians could also benefit for this supplement if they want to add additional protein to their diet. It's an easy to use and versatile addition to your nutritional program.

QUESTION: Is there any research that says Taurine supports alterness? Our Barracuda product says "L-Taurine is a non-essential amino acid and supports alterness, detoxification and has antioxidant activity."
However, according to researchers at Weill Cornell Medical Colleg, taurine, while working as a neurotransmitter, might act more like a sedative than a stimulant.
ANSWER: Answer: The energy drink/energy shot market has seen incredible growth over the past decade, both in the US and internationally markets. Recent data from Mintel's Global New Products Database (GNPD) indicate that product launches increased 240% from 2004 to 2009. This strong trend is expected to continue to meet the demand for energy-enhanced products. These beverages are used for their stimulant effects (physiological and psychological) and can include a variety of revitalizing ingredients including, various carbohydrates (simple sugars and/or maltodextrin), caffeine from sources like guarana and yerba mate, B vitamins, inositol, taurine, glucuronolactone, various herbs like ginkgo biloba and ginseng and other ingredients. Recent data from Mintel's GNPD found that taurine was used in more that one in four (27%) energy drinks in 2004. Taurine is one of the more interesting and controversial energy-boosting ingredients found in these drink products.
The study on taurine you referred to was published in the January 2, 2008 issue of the Journal of Neuroscience (Jia F, et al, 2008). In trying to understand how taurine affects the brain, these investigators discovered that taurine is a potent activator of a key neurotransmitter, GABA (gamma-aminobutyric acid) receptors, in the thalamic area of the brain. GABA acts as an inhibitory neurotransmitter that researchers conclude would have more of a sedative effect on the brain rather than the stimulatory effect. They found that taurine also shares these inhibitory receptors which would mean that taurine would not act as a stimulant. In interpreting the study results, one of the researchers suggested that the taurine could play a role in the "crash" individuals may experience while taking these drinks. As this study looked specifically at taurine, earlier studies have looked at the effects of energy drinks containing a combination of ingredients like taurine, glucuronolactone, and caffeine on alertness and physical performance. A pair of studies published the journal Amino Acids in 2000 and 2001 (Seidl R, et al., 2000 and Alford C, et al., 2001) evaluated the energy drink Red Bull on human performance and mood. Red Bull contains taurine, caffeine, glucuronolactone and several other ingredients. These studies assessed psychomotor performance (reaction time, concentration, memory), alertness, and physical endurance. Both studies found statisically significant improvements in anaerobic and aerobic performance, significant improvements in mental performance, memory and alertness as compared to a placebo drink. Scientists from these two studies speculated that the effects may be mediated by the actions of caffeine and taurine on brain receptors. I tend to agree with these findings that it is the combination of ingredients with caffeine, not taurine alone, that may support alertness and these other physiological and psychological effects. Hopefully, more studies in this area will be performed to further understand the "crash" phenomenon that some individuals experience in using these product.
Barracuda has a combination of B vitamins, caffeine, N-acetyl-L-tyrosine, malic acid, glucuronolactone, L-phenylalanine and taurine. Our focus in the formulation of Barracuda was on being the strongest in terms of caffeine and taste. Barracuda provides 250 mg caffeine per 2 fl oz serving and the overwhelming amount of customer feedback indicates that it is the best tasting energy shot out there.

QUESTION: what is the best protein powder to use after pregnancy?
ANSWER: It depends if you will be breast feeding or not. Hopefully, you are aware on the many advantages of breast feeding for both you and your new baby. The Recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA) for protein during lactation is 71 grams per day which is based on age and body weight or an additional 20 grams of protein over non-pregnant women. It is recommended not to take in too much protein during lactation, so I would suggest not exceed an intake of 1 gram protein per pound of body weight. Try to get most of your protein from foods and view the protein powder as a supplement to your diet. Within the Max Muscle line I would recommend our High 5 protein powder due to the fact that you would be getting proteins from multiple quality sources, including egg, soy and various fractions of milk proteins like whey and casein. For lactating women, I particularly like the soy as it would support estrogen, progesterone and other hormone levels that typically fall sharply after delivery. Human breast milk is also rich in whey and casein. High 5 is a high quality protein supplement and 1 to 2 additional servings per day would be adequate for you. In addition to the protein, try to eat a well balanced diet with lots of natural colors. Make sure to get adequate calcium, iron, vitamin C, green leafy and yellow vegetables, whole grains, DHA-rich foods and plenty of water each day. It is always advised to consult your doctor about any changes to your diet during breast feeding.

QUESTION: I suffer from panic attacks and I am VERY sensitive to caffeine. My trainer just got me the define powder but since it has caffeine i'm scared. It doesn't state how much caffeine it contains. Should I try it?
ANSWER: Our Max De-Lite, which is a product within the same category as D-Fine, does contain caffeine at 250 mg per serving (2 scoops). This information is listed on the product label in the Supplement Facts panel. Since you are very sensitive to caffeine, I would not suggest taking the product. If you are looking for a product that does not contain caffeine you may want to try our Quadra Cuts Advanced Thyroid Support or Quadra Cuts Night Time. Both products contain active ingredients to promote weight and fat loss without any stimulants.
Another option would be to try our Max CLA. Max CLA uses only patented Clarinol(tm) from specially modified Safflower Oil to provide the highest levels of the two active CLA isomers cis-9, trans-11 (c9-t11), and trans-10, cis-12 (t10-c12) in the preferred 50:50 ratio. These two active isomers are the only ones that have been research tested for body composition changes. Studies show superior loss of body fat and increases in lean muscle mass for individuals taking 1.7 grams/day to 3.6 grams/day of CLA.
Another supplement that takes a different approach would be our Cleanse & Lean. The focus of Cleanse & Lean is on eliminating excess fecal waste from your lower intestines. Most individuals have several pounds of stored fecal waste that contributes to protruding abdominal areas. Cleanse & Lean helps promote quick weight loss and regularity. Finally, in our Max Nutraceutical line, you may want to try our Soy Protein Powder to replace one of two of your daily meals. Studies have shown that soy protein promotes weigh loss and when soy protein consumption goes up, weight goes down.

QUESTION: I am a kidney/pancreas transplant recipient, April 1996. I have been taking Puritan's Pride Green Source mulit vitamins & minerals tablets since my transplant. These tablets are enertic coated, which I understand helps them get past the gastric acid and into the small intestine where their nutrients can be released at over an 80% absorbtion rate. I am interested in finding out your take on liquid vitamins. Your thoughts would be appreciated, as most of the talk on this seems to be unsubstantiated. I look forward to hearing from you. Thanks, KENT.
ANSWER: I am a big fan of liquid vitamins. For liquid supplements, the vitamins, minerals and other nutraceuticals are already in solution giving them the ability to be absorbed rapidly and efficiently. Another advantage of liquid nutrition is that there is no "pill fatigue" and liquid nutrition is ideal for those tired of swallowing handfuls of pills. The biggest challenge for companies is to make a good tasting and comprehensive liquid supplement.
There are advantages and disadvantages to tablets. Generally, tablets are easy and convenient to take. Tablets contain both active ingredients along with inactive ingredients called excipients that can include binders, fillers, coatings and lubricants primarily used to hold the tablet together for the tableting process, and making them look pretty. These include names like hydroxypropylcelllose, methycellulose, povidone, hydroxypropylmethylcellulose, stearic acid, starches and many other agents. Ingredients in the tablets may be held together so hard that they could take a long time to breakdown in the intestine.Sometimes they do not breakdown at all. Additionally, tablets may also attach to the intestinal lining causing irritation, discomfort and symptoms like repeat and nausea.
Our Max Vit-Acell is produced using EMUSOL micellization which is a patented technology which makes all the nutrients more readily absorbable. Vit-Acell contains 100% or greater of the Daily Value of 11 essential vitamins and over 60 major, trace and ultra-trace minerals.
Vit-Acell contains a Proprietary Liquid Herbal Blend to promote energy with green tea leaf extract, ginkgo biloba, grape seed extract, Korean ginseng, bioflavonoids, rutin and hesperidin. Additionally, Vit-Acell contains glucosamine sulfate for joint health and a comprehensive Digestive Enzyme Blend. Most important, our Vit-Acell comes in a great tasting Orange Citrus flavor.
Our Max Ultra-100 is a great tasting liquid multi containing over 100 vitamin & minerals, antioxidants and amino acids with extra high vitamin potency for the most active adult lifestyles. Max Ultra-100 contains 100% Daily Value or greater of 12 essential vitamins, including 100% Daily Value (400 mcg) of Folic Acid. Additionally, aloe vera has been added providing many benefits of this amazing botanical. The aloe vera (Barbadensis Miller) in Max Ultra-100 is highly concentrated (200:1) and derived from the inner fillet of the plant. The Barbadensis Miller genus and species is believed to be the most potent and nutrient-rich form of all the species containing aloe polysaccharides and a wide range of other beneficial phytochemicals. Aloe vera has recently been shown in human clinical studies to enhance the absorption of essential nutrients by increasing the half-life of vitamins E, C, B12 and Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity (ORAC) in plasma, especially in elderly.
Liquid nutrition may be the best option for you. The Product Data Sheets on both Vit-Acell and Ultra 100 are available from our retail stores or website (www.maxmuscle.com). Since you have had kidney/pancreas transplants show these PDS to your doctor for review.

QUESTION: I am having trouble getting the fat off of my lower stomach. What can I do?
ANSWER: There is very little scientific evidence that any dietary supplement can reduce fat from any specific area, especially the stomach. Gender (male or female), genetics, ethnic background, hormones, and other factors determine this. Generally, as we lose weight the weight comes off the body evenly. Cardio exercise accelerates the process.
The only ingredient that has any scientific evidence of pinpointing loss of abdominal fat is Clarinol CLA. CLA stands for Conjugated Linoleic Acid and is a type polyunsaturated fatty acid or PUFA. CLA is also a special type of omega-6 fatty acid (Linoleic Acid) and is derived from safflower oil. Clarinol CLA provides the highest levels of the two active CLA isomers cis-9, trans-11 (c9-t11), and trans-10, cis-12
(t10-c12) in the preferred 50:50 ratio. These isomers are so special that they are protected by the WARF (Wisconsin Alumni Research
Foundation) patent.
Clarinol CLA is the best proven CLA for reducing body fat in men and women and a recent clinical study published in the British Journal of Medicine (Gaullier, et al., 2007) confirmed regional and specific fat loss around the abdominal area and legs. Studies have also been shown to ameliorate the signs of cellulite on the skin. Studies show superior loss of body fat and increase in lean muscle mass for people taking 1.7 grams/day to 3.6 grams per day of CLA per day compared to placebo.
Based on this evidence, I would recommend our Max CLA with Clarinol CLA product. It's a great addition to our other Max Muscle weight loss products.

QUESTION: I just purchased the De-Lite product for weight loss. What benefits does this have over the Quadra Cuts Extreme if any?
ANSWER: Max De-Lite was formulated to reduce hunger, provide energy, stimulate thermogenesis (fat burning) and provide dietary fiber to feel full. De-Lite is a powder, designed as a refreshing drink to be mixed with cold water and sipped with or without a straw. As a powder, it can be customized for strength and flavor profile (e.g., add Crystal Light sweetener). On the other hand, Quadra Cuts Extreme is delivered in a capsule and was formulated as a thermogenic and fat burning formula. Both Max De-Lite and Quadra Cuts Extreme are powerful weight loss products. Below are the features and benefits of both products and the differences:
De-Lite contains the clinically proven appetite supressant Slimaluma and this ingredient is not found in Quadra Cuts Extreme.
Both products contain Advantra Z (Citrus aurantium) which is a thermogenic compound that enhances the breakdown of fat and promotes lean body mass. Quadra Cuts contains 72 mg Advantra Z per serving compared to 45 mg Advantra Z per serving of De-Lite.
Both products contain caffeine to stimulate thermogenesis. These ingredients are also found in Quadra Cuts, but Quadra Cuts has 400 mg caffeine/serving while De-Lite has 250 mg caffeine/serving.
Only De-Lite contains Clarinol CLA (Conjugated Linoleic Acid), the highest concentrated form of CLA and only clinically proven CLA research tested for body composition changes especially in the abdominal area, arms and legs. Clarinol CLA has also been shown to reduce the signs of cellulite on the skin.
Only De-Lite contains Inulin fiber at 12 grams/serving. Inulin is an excellent fiber source to provide fullness. Inulin also functions as a prebiotic, providing the energy for the friendly intestinal bacteria called probiotics.
Both De-Lite and Quadra Cuts Extreme contains L-Carnitine, but this ingredient is 50 mg stronger in De-Lite. L-Carnitine aids in the facilitation of fat breakdown for energy.
Both products contain highly standardized Green Tea Extract (standardized to contain a minimum of 45 percent EGCG) to support thermogenesis and provide energy.
De-Lite contains Panex Ginseng, Damiana Extract, and other metabolic cofactors including, L-Taurine, Glucuronolactone, Aloe Vera, Iodine, Pantothenic Acid, and Chromium to support and maximize fat oxidation.
Additionally, De-Lite contains a complete B-complex vitamin mix along with calcium, magnesium, chromium and iodine. The iodine is particularly important as it supports the thyroid gland in the production of thyroid hormone. Quadra Cuts Extreme does contain magnesium, chromium, and vanadium, but does not contain iodine.
De-Lite is a very powerful/activated weight loss formula. It is recommended to test your tolerance and start out with a quarter scoop for a couple of days. If well tolerated, increase the servings to half scoop, 1 full scoop and up to the 2 scoop serving. If you experience any intestinal upset, take after a meal or with some food.
At Max Muscle, we like to provide product options. Although there are some similarities between De-Lite and Quadra Cuts Extreme, De-Lite offers the refreshing drink approach to be sipped and enjoyed over time while Quadra Cuts Extreme is a capsule.

QUESTION: Should I take the Quadra cuts extreme with the Quarda cuts nightime
ANSWER: The Quadra Cuts series including Quadra Cuts Extreme, Quadra Cuts Advanced Thyroid Support, and Quadra Cuts Night Time were formulated to work together as a 24/7 comprehensive weight management solution.
Quadra Cuts Extreme was formulated for day use to support maximum calorie burning, accelerated weight loss, specifically fat, and increase energy and elevate the body's metabolism. The main component of this formula is the powerful proprietary Quadra Cuts Proprietary Blend providing multiple sources of natural caffeine-related alkaloids. The formula is presented in a time-released tablet for a continuous delivery of caffeine over an extended period of time. Included in the powerhouse Blend is caffeine from natural sources including green tea extract (standardized to contain a minimum of 45% EGCG), guarana extract and spiked with natural caffeine for maximum potency. Cissus quadrangularis extract is added to support rapid weight loss and complements the multi-sources of caffeine. Each serving (2 tablets) provides 400 mg caffeine so it is very powerful. Make sure to test your tolerance with
1 tablet before consuming the 2 tablet serving.
Quadra Cuts Advanced Thyroid Support was designed for adults for optimal thyroid gland function to help achieve maximum calorie burning throughout the day. Quadra Cuts Thyroid Support is a non-stimulating thermogenic formula that provides targeted vitamins, minerals and herbal extracts to nourish and support healthy thyroid cell metabolism as well as triiodothyronine (T3) and thyroxine (T4) levels. This comprehensive formula specifically focuses on an often overlooked part of a weight management plan, thyroid function. Effective and long term weight loss requires reducing calories and increasing exercise levels, both of which can negatively affect thyroid production, causing a decrease in metabolic rate as your body tries to hold onto fat. You want to burn that fat so supporting thyroid function can be a key part of your fat loss strategy.
The proprietary Blend in the formula contains a potent combination of maximum strength guggul (Commiphora mukul) extract (standardized to contain 98% Z and E guggulsterones (6.25 mg guggulsterones), coleus forskohlii extract, (standardized to contain 10% forskolin), ashwagandha (Withania somnifera) root extract (standardized to contain 2.5% withanolides), and Bauhinia purpurea extract (12:1).
The third formula in the trio is Quadra Cuts Night Time which was designed for adults to help sustain maximum calorie burning while you sleep. Unlike preparations that leave you feeling over stimulated and restless in the evening, Quadra Cuts Night Time provides the fat burning factors throughout the night and assists you in sleeping by combining gentle but effective sleep aids promoting a great night's sleep. Quadra Cuts Night Time contains the Night Time Burn Blend with four scientifically proven fat loss accelerators including, L-carnitine,
7-Keto(r) DHEA, Garcinia cambogia extract (Hydroxycitric acid, HCA), and chromium (polynicotinate).
As with any weight loss products, the Quadra Cuts series is most effective when used in conjunction with a reduced calorie diet, exercise and behavior modification program.

QUESTION: Please explain what N.O.is and does it help build muscle?
ANSWER: NO is short for Nitric Oxide. Nitric Oxide is formed by the action of the enzyme nitric oxide synthase (NOS) on the amino acid L-arginine. There are 3 forms of NOS; inducible NOS (iNOS), endothelial NOS (eNOS) and neural NOS (nNOS). The eNOS, found in the vascular endothelium, is most important for athletic performance. During exercise the demands for increased blood flow with acute strenuous exercise are significant. Although several mechanisms are available to allow for optimal blood flow redistribution with acute exercise, NO indeed plays a major role. It is still unclear the exact impact NO has on exercise performance and these mechanisms are actively being studied. Several proposed mechanisms include; increased blood flow resulting in increased oxygen and nutrient delivery to exercising muscles, increased muscle pump, increased peak workout output, increased resistance to fatigue, increased recovery, and increased muscle hypertrophy (size). So, NO either directly or indirectly helps build muscle.
Most supplements in the category of promoting NO production include L-arginine or similar molecules like arginine alpha-ketoglutarate (A-AKG) or other amino acids bound to AKG. A new and exciting ingredient has come onto the scene called GlycoCarn® (Glycine Propionyl-L-Carnitine HCl or GPLC, Sigma-tau HealthScience, Inc., Patent #6,703,042). GlycoCarn® is a USP grade dietary ingredient which consists of a molecular bonded form of propionyl-L-carnitine and one of the carnitine precursor amino acids, glycine. Several recently published studies have demonstrated dramatic increased in NO in individuals taking GPLC. The first study to use GPLC involved previously sedentary men and women who were assigned to supervised aerobic exercise with or without treatment for eight weeks A significant increase in resting levels of blood NO was noted for subjects receiving GPLC compared to placebo (in a double blind design). Subjects who received GPLC were also noted as having lower levels of lipid peroxidation, a measure of free radical mediated oxidation of lipids. This is important, as increased free radical production is associated with impaired NO bioavailability. A second study to use GPLC involved resistance trained men who were assigned to GPLC and a placebo for four weeks each, with a two week washout period between each four week phase—also using a double blind design. At the end of each four week phase, resting blood samples were obtained, in addition to blood samples following static forearm exercise (used to induce a further increase in NO). Blood NO was noted to be higher in response to the forearm exercise with GPLC compared to placebo, a finding that may have implications related to enhanced blood flow during acute bouts of exercise.
Max Muscle has two excellent products in the NO category, Max Nitro and Nitro EXT. Max Nitro is our traditional formula, based on delivering L-arginine AKG (A-AKG) in tablet form and has been available for many years. Our newest innovation, Nitro EXT, is a more advanced powder formula. Nitro EXT builds on the Max Nitro platform of A-AKG and contains the exciting ingredient GlycoCarn® is a proven NO stimulator and promotes maximum muscular energetics for enhanced training intensity. GlycoCarn® is also a powerful antioxidant providing protection against free radicals that may damage muscle and other cells during exercise. Nitro EXT contains other science-supported ingredients to increase NO production including, L-norvaline, N-acetyl cysteine (NAC), alpha lipoic acid (ALA), Epimedium sagittatum (standardized to 40% Icariin), Gynostemma pentaphyllum (standarized to 95% Gypenoside), and pine bark extract (standardized to 90% Proanthocyanins). As mentioned earlier, NOS is the necessary enzyme in the conversion of L-arginine to NO NOS requires the cofactors riboflavin and thiamin for optimal function so these two essential vitamins have been added to support optimal enzyme function along with magnesium and vitamin C. Magnesium is a component of hundreds of enzymes involved in metabolism and energy support. Vitamin C serves as an intracellular stimulator of NO production along with powerful antioxidant functions. Nitro EXT also contains the proven ingredient beta-alanine. Beta-alanine, along with the amino acid L-histidine promotes carnosine production in muscles. Carnosine functions as a powerful buffer allowing for enhanced power, speed and intensity along with enhanced muscle recovery.
If you are looking for a great NO supplement, consider using our Max Nitro or Nitro EXT. Both should perform well for you.

QUESTION: Do you have any recommendations for a high quality all natural whey protein powder? I'm trying to stay away from artificial flavors, colors, and sweeteners.
ANSWER: We have a couple of options for you. One choice is our Maxpro Natural Vanilla. We formulated this flavor for individuals, like yourself, who want a completely natural protein without any artificial colors, flavors, sweeteners or additives. Maxpro Natural Vanilla uses the same high quality protein fractions sourced exclusively in the U.S. and provides the exact same nutritional profile as the other flavors of Maxpro with 30 grams of protein per serving. It is sweetened with Luo Han Fruit Concentrate.
The other choice for you would be our Amino Max formula. Amino Max is a blend of all 20 amino acids, including all 9 essential amino acids, derived from the same high quality whey protein fractions found in all our protein powders. Amino Max is delivered in a capsule and does not contain any artificial colors, flavors, sweeteners, binders, fillers or other additives. Amino Max is also a good option for those individuals allergic or intolerant to whey protein (dairy), egg, soy or other proteins.

QUESTION: Dr. Harvey I was thinking about buying a Max Pro in order to make the pancake recipe I saw. But I was curious about how the protein gets broken down and affected when cooked? I had heard that some of the amino acids would break down and there would not be as much nutrional value. But I was wondering if I could get your take on the issue?
Thanks, Mark Long
ANSWER: Using MaxPro or any other Max Muscle protein powder to boost the protein content of pancakes is a great idea and you don't have to worry about losing the whey protein benefits. What is happening with cooking is that heat only changes the three dimensional structure of the protein by breaking the weak hydrogen bonds that hold the protein chains together in the three dimensional shape. The technical term for this is protein "denaturation". When the hydrogen bonds within the whey protein are broken the shape of the protein just changes. The amount of protein, the amino acids that make up the protein and nutritional value remain intact. The only thing you may notice is a change in the taste of your pancakes or possibly that they will get a bit lumpy. The same thing happens when frying an egg. The protein in the egg white changes from a gelatinous form to a solid shape, but does not digest or destroy it. So go ahead and add Maxpro to your favorite pancake mix and enjoy the added protein and nutritional benefits.

QUESTION: i workout at night time before bed. What is the best time of day to take my protein?

ANSWER: With crazy school and work schedules, many individuals have to exercise in the evening just to get a daily workout in. Others prefer to workout in the evening as gyms are not as crowded or to wind down from the hectic day. You indicate you workout at night before bed. The only downside I see is that it may take a bit more time to relax and prepare your mind and body for a restful nights sleep which is critical for recovery. In terms of how much protein you should take in during the day, use the 1 gram of protein per pound of bodyweight rule. So if you weigh 175 lbs, your daily protein (from both food and protein shake/supplement sources) intake would be 175 grams. You should divide the total 175 grams into 5 to 6 servings per day, so about 30 to 35 grams per serving. There are many sources of proteins powders (dairy, egg, soy, etc.) that vary in molecular weight (molecular size) and digestion time. Specific to dairy, there are two main protein fractions. Whey proteins that make up about 20% of the total protein digest fairly easy and quickly. Casein makes up the remainder 80% and due to its size, digests much slower. Before bed you are replenishing your muscle proteins following exercise so you need a fast acting protein like whey along with casein for the long fast during sleep. Our High 5 would be the perfect choice as it contains proteins from multiple sources with varying molecular weights, including whey protein isolate (WPI), whey protein concentrate (WPC), soy protein isolate (SPI), egg white albumen, and casein. Each scoop provides 26 grams of high quality proteins and you can add a bit more to hit the 30 gram amount. Additionally, High 5 provides the essential electrolytes sodium and potassium required by your muscles to restore fluid and salt balance.

QUESTION: In the pre-workout supplement EXT I felt a tingling sensation taking it. I found out it was from the Niacin. My question is, is the a limit on how much Niacin you should have? and will that effect go away?
ANSWER: The tingling sensation you felt is most likely from the beta-alanine rather than the niacin. Nitro EXT contains beta-alanine in the powder form that gets absorbed quickly in solution and this can produce the characteristic tingling or pricking effect. Some have even described a mild burning or itching sensation. It is technically called paresthesia and commonly felt in the face, lips, arms, hands or other part of the body and is not harmful. It is similar to the niacin flush and usually goes away in about 20 minutes. To reduce the paresthesia, try taking a half serving and gradually increasing to the full serving. Smaller and more frequent dosing may also help or taken with a small amount of food (e.g., crackers). Beta-alanine is also found in our Xtinguisher product so the same recommendation would apply.

QUESTION: I am allergic to tree nuts. I have noticed a majority of products are produced on machines that also process tree nuts. What type or brand of weight gainer would you recommend?
ANSWER: Tree nuts include almonds, pecans, or walnuts, but do not include peanuts. Many individuals have peanut allergens versus tree nut allergies. Regarding the Allergy Information on all Max Muscle products, we do state that the products are manufactured in a facility or on equipment that also processes the major allergens, but we include this statement as an extra layer of caution for the consumer. Our Allergy Statement is a "canned" statement on all our products. If our product contained tree nuts or peanuts (e.g., Max Crunch Peanut Butter Perfection), we would state this on the label in the Allergy Information section. All our manufacturers that product our products comply with current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) for both food and dietary supplements incorporating the mandatory production procedures and controls to prevent any contamination or cross contamination of ingredients during the production and filling process. The likelihood of any contamination of tree nuts or peanuts would be extremely rare.
Regarding your question on a weight gainer, I would recommend our new Gourmet Gainer product. It's a complete muscle and weight gaining formula providing 456 calories per serving with 35 grams of multi-fractional whey proteins and 72 grams multi-molecular weight carbohydrates (mixed with 12-16 oz water). Mixed with 16 oz of 2% milk you would get 700 calories with 51 grams of protein and 96 grams of carbohydrates. It comes in three delicious flavors including Chocolate Coma, Vanilla Heaven, and Strawberry Splurge.

QUESTION: I've always heard that you should mix a protein shake right before consumming it. Is there any reason, such as the protein breaking down, or the protein becoming less effective, if it were to be mixed say a gallon at a time and taken over a few days?
ANSWER: It's all about freshness. Generally, we recommend mixing all our protein and non-protein powders just prior to consuming. This is the best way to enjoy the taste and guarantee delivery of the key nutrients on the Facts panel at their stated amounts for maximum product performance. If you decide to mix up one of our proteins shakes and let it sit, there would be some minor breakdown of proteins into peptides and possibly amino acids. This would be dependent on the time left to sit and the temperature. There should not be any significant loss of protein amount or less effectiveness meaning that if the label claim is 30 gm protein per serving it would be decreased to 15 gm or so. You would still be getting the 30 gm of protein. I would not recommend mixing up a gallon and consuming it over several days and probably say 24 hours is the limit. If you decide to do this, your shake mix must be kept cold and refrigerated to prevent microbes from growing as we do not add preservatives to our powders to prevent this. The taste profile, color and other changes could occur over time and there could be interactions or breakdown of other nutrients like the water soluble vitamins including vitamin C and the B vitamins within the product. Also, if it starts to smell and/or taste funny I would not drink it. Our proteins were designed and developed to enjoy prior to use and that is the best way they perform.

QUESTION: how many days does it take feel effect of creatine
ANSWER: My answer to you is that it is relative as individuals respond differently to supplementation. It would depend on your age, type of exercise you participate in (strength vs. endurance), and existing muscle creatine levels. It would also depend on the quality, purity and form of creatine you use. The classic method of taking creatine is the "loading and maintenance" protocol where during the loading phase you would ingest 5 gm creatine (0.3 gm/kg body weight/day), four times per day for 5 days. For the maintenance phase, you would ingest 3-5 gm creatine per day. A second method, termed the "high-dose" protocol, has also been shown to be effective taking 15-25 gm creatine/day for 7 days. There is also a "low-dose" protocol, ingesting 3 gm creatine over a 28 day period, but the other methods appear to be more effective. I would recommend the "high-dose" method for the quickest response if that is what you are looking for. Research shows that most of the creatine is taken up by the muscles during the first 2-3 days, so you should feel the benefits within the first week. Taking creatine with a high carbohydrate drink and/or protein also helps to deliver creatine to the muscle more efficiently. Alpha lipoic acid (ALA) has also been shown to enhance the uptake of creatine into muscle. The quality and purity of the creatine is also a very important factor in the performance of the product and that is why we at Max Muscle Sports Nutrition have selected the finest raw material sources for our newest Cx3 product. Give Cx3 a try and you should feel the effects faster than other creatine products you may have used.

QUESTION: I would like to know what is the best appetite supressant?
ANSWER: I have been following the literature and find the area of appetite suppression very interesting and still an evolving area in the approach to weight loss. There are a few ingredients that are establishing themselves as being safe and effective. Here are my current favorites; Slimaluma, Hoodia gordonii, Advantra Z, and Cha de Bugre. Slimaluma is a patented extract (U.S patent #7,060,308) of the Caralluma fimbriata, a member of the cactus family, which has been successfully used as a natural appetite suppressant in India for centuries. The proposed mechanism of weight loss appears to be through appetite suppression through the action of the bioactive pregnane glycosides. Found mainly in the Kalahari Desert region of South Africa and Namibia, Hoodia gordonii has been used traditionally as an appetite suppressant by the indigenous populations of these regions. In 2004, 60 Minutes aired a segment on its use as an appetite suppressant that got a lot of attention. We are starting to see a few published studies on its effectiveness, but it must be authentic Hoodia supported by CITES certification. Advantra Z, an extract of a citrus fruit (Citrus aurantium). Advantra Z contains a complete and synergistic family of bioactive amines including synephrine, N-methyltyramine, hordenine, octopanime and tyramine. Advantra Z has been shown to be safe and effective in humans in exerting an appetite suppressing effect so this ingredient is also the real deal. Finally, Cha de Bugre which is a small tropical tree found in South America. Anecdotal evidence suggests that it may work quite well as an appetite suppressant, but there have been no published studies to date. I am still waiting for some scientific evidence on this one. Combinations of Slimaluma, Hoodia gordonii, and Advantra Z can be found in several Max Muscle Sports Nutrition products like Femme Lean & Balance, Anabol Cuts, Quadra Cuts Extreme, ThermXX. I expect to see more interesting appetite suppressant ingredients in the near future.

QUESTION: can you please explain CX3 and how it would be beneficial to take these 3 different kinds of creatine as opposed to just one? Physiologically how will it be different?
ANSWER: Part of the philosophy and approach to product development at Max Muscle is to use multiple sources of bioactive ingredients in our formulations driven by science, quality, purity, safety and effectiveness. Our newest innovation, Cx3, is a perfect example combining the benefits of multiple sources of premier creatine ingredients including, CreaPure®, Creatine MagnaPower® (Magnesium Creatine Chelate), and Creatine Pyruvate. Our approach to Cx3 was to provide the Max Muscle customer with a more comprehensive product utilizing a blend of the best forms of creatine available supported by published and peer-reviewed science. CreaPure® is perhaps one of the finest and ultrapure creatine monohydrate ingredients available in the world. Unsurpassed by purity and quality, it is produced under a rigorous and patent protected manufacturing process, thus preventing any negative byproducts from being formed like creatinine, dicyandiamide and dehydrotriazine. This is very important as most users of creatine take it daily and many take large amounts (to 30 gm) for its purported benefits. Minimal ingestion of these impurities would be a good thing. Creatine MagnaPower® is also a patented form of creatine, but is a bit of a different molecule. It is a fully-reactive creatine monohydrate bonded to the mineral magnesium. Magnesium is essential in the conversion of creatine to ATP so it’s smart to use this form in our formula. Additionally, Creatine MagnaPower® has been shown to deliver 12% more free creatine to the body than a single serving of just creatine monohydrate alone. The third form of creatine in Cx3 is Creatine Pyruvate. Recent published research has shown that this form of creatine has a significant effect on raising blood levels of creatine in the blood up to 17% when compared to creatine monohydrate or creatine citrate so it was selected for this benefit. So for Cx3 we wanted to develop a creatine product with the benefits of three forms of creatine as compared to just the one creatine monohydrate.

QUESTION: Dr. Harvey, I noticed that the Max Gourmet Protein Powders contain sucralose. Can you tell me more about this ingredient and how it is metabolized in the body? Thanks.
ANSWER: Sucralose is the common name for Splenda(R) and is defined as an alternative or artificial sweetener. sucralose is intensely sweet and is about 600 times sweeter than table sugar (sucrose). The FDA approved the use of sucralose as a safe sweetener in 1998 and is widely used in diet sodas, sugarless gums, frozen desserts, jams, etc. Although defined as an artificial sweetener, sucralose is made from a patented process that begins with natural sucrose and modified and the end result is a non-caloric carbohydrate. The vast majority of ingested sucralose is not absorbed and what amount is absorbed is not metabolized by the body as natural sugars are so it produces no calories. It is rapidly eliminated in the urine as sucralose. Here at Max Muscle Sports Nutrition there are many advantages of using this sweetener and we commonly use sucralose with another artificial sweetener Acesulfame Potassium (K). As they are both intensely sweet, minute amounts are used in the Max Gourmet formula and our other protein powders. It makes our protein powders taste great without loading them up with added or high amounts carbohydrates.

QUESTION: I noticed that ThermXX has hydroxy in it. Has this product been recalled?
ANSWER: The Hydroxycut recall and product investigation is still ongoing. To date, the FDA has not determined any direct cause and effect of any single ingredient like Garcinia Cambogia (Hydroxycitric acid, HCA) or combination of ingredients in the Hydroxycut formulas. It is true that ThermXX has Garcinia cambogia in the formula, but we have no immediate plans on removing this ingredient or reformulating the product until we have specific confirmation from the FDA that it is truly the HCA ingredient that has caused the problems with the Hydroxycut products.

QUESTION: What are the negative side-effects of creatine? Do they outweigh the benefits? As a soccer player and a high endurance athelete, is creatine a smart choice?
ANSWER: Creatine supplementation has been used by athletes for over 40 years now so you can imagine the millions of doses that have been consumed worldwide. For the most part, creatine supplement is safe when taken within recommended guidelines. There have been several reports in the literature that oral creatine can cause intestinal pain, nausea, and diarrhea. Some individual case studies have also reported muscle cramping and dehydration. Most of these reports have been anecdotal with few minor studies documented. The overwhelming amount of information from the now thousands of published studies have supported the safety of creatine. Individuals with pre-existing kidney disease of gastrointestinal problems should consult with a healthcare practitioner before consuming the supplement. Anyone developing any discomfort or other physical problems while taking creatine should discontinue use and consult a healthcare provider. Creatine supplementation would be beneficial for soccer as it supports the production of energy for high intensity exercise, muscle strength and improved performance. As for products, I would highly recommend Max Muscle's newest creatine innovation Cx3, containing the finest and safest creatines available in the world including CreaPure, Creatine MagnaPower and Creatine Pyruvate.

QUESTION: I have seen studies suggesting that Glucosomine and Chondroiten are no more effective than a placebo at reducing joint pain and inflammation. What about MSM or a combination of MCM with these other two supplements?
Thanks
ANSWER: I assume the study you are referring to is the GAIT II clinical trial (Arth Rheum. 2008;58(10):3183-91) that showed no benefit from glucosamine and chondroitin or a COX-2 inhibitor on joint space width (JSW) loss as compared to a placebo. These results are very perplexing and inconsistent with an existing large body of published studies showing benefits from taking glucosamine sulfate and chondroitin sulfate supplementation. The results of the GAIT II are also inconsistent with the first GAIT study and a number of previously published clinical trials which examined the same JSW outcome. There are a large number of published scientific studies that support the benefits of glucosamine sulfate and chondroitin sulfate on joints. These ingredients have been in the marketplace for many years and millions of individuals have benefited from the combined use. If there were no benefit, people would stop using them. Additionally, many health practitioners recommend glucosamine and chondroitin for their patients. My experience is that individuals may respond differently with some seen stronger responses than others, but most people respond positively. Make sure to look for the "sulfate' form of these two ingredients and that they are taken at the beneficial levels of 1,500 mg of glucosamine sulfate and 1,200 mg of chondroitin sulfate per day. MSM or Methylsulfonylmethane is also a beneficial ingredient as it is a rich source of sulfur which is a vital component of joints. We have a great product in our line called Max Joint Relief having the correct forms of both glucosamine and chondroitin along with MSM, ginger and turmeric.

QUESTION: Which products that you carry are Gluten and Wheat-Free?
ANSWER: Gluten is a protein found in all forms of wheat (including durum, semolina, and spelt), rye, oats (oat bran), barley and related grain hybrids such as triticale and kamut. In foods, gluten is responsible for the elasticity in dough and the structure of bread. It is the gliadin component of the gluten that is problematic and responsible for Celiac disease.
An analysis of all the ingredients in Max Muscle products finds that the following contain ingredients where gluten and/or wheat may be present and should be avoided:
Max Triple Whey Protein - Chocolate Flavor (contains cocoa powder) Maxpro - Chocolate Flavor (contains cocoa) High 5 - Chocolate and Cappuccino Flavors (contains cocoa) Max Gourmet - All Flavors (contains oat fiber) Max Lean Protein - All Flavors (contains oat bran fiber) Max MRP - All Flavors (contains barley bran and oat fiber) Big Max 50 - All Flavors (contains barley bran and oat fiber) Gluta-Matrix Capsules (glutamine peptides are derived from wheat gluten) Gluta Matrix (glutamine peptides are derived from wheat gluten)
Wheat grass powder, found in Max Green Synergy, does not contain gluten.
Wheat grass is a vegetable which is cut before the wheat plant forms the grain and the gluten protein; therefore, wheat grass contains no gluten.
The maltodextrin used in CarboMax, Max ACM and Big Max 50 is derived from corn and does not contain gluten. This is a tricky one since the name "malt"odextrin and some would think comes from malt.
All the other Max Muscle products do not contain gluten and should be fine to consume. It is advisable to consult with your healthcare provider by showing them the product label of the Max Muscle product you are interested in taking that lists the ingredients or the Product Data Sheet.
You can get more information about gluten-free foods from the following resources:
1. http://digestive.niddk.nih.gov/ddiseases/pubs/celiac
2. www.vegsoc.org/info/gluten

QUESTION: I HAVE BEEN TAKING THE MAXULTRA 100 LIQUID VITAMINS WITH FOOD AND HAVE EXCESSIVE GAS AFTER TAKING IT. HOW CAN I AVOID THIS?
ANSWER: The solution is a process of modifying how you are taking Ultra 100.I am thinking that the aloe vera in the product is causing the excessive gas. Your intestines should get used to the aloe and your discomfort should stop over time. Try a half serving and see what happens. You also mentioned that you only take Ultra 100 with food. One suggestion is to stop taking it with food as it is perfectly fine to take it by itself. See what happens here. Some individuals may be intolerant to fructose causing gas. You would know this if you have gas after eating fruits or foods and drinks containing high fructose corn syrup.Fructose intolerance is a rare condition that needs to be checked out by a physician. If none of these suggestions works, you may want to try our Max Complete or Pro-Vite products. These capsules contain a fine powder and are generally gentler on the intestines. Pro-Vite also contains digestive enzymes which may provide you with some added digestive benefits.

QUESTION: I purchased the MaxPro protein supplement. The package information has an allergen warning regarding shellfish. Is there a possible cross-contamination issue as I have shellfish allergies. If so, does Max Muscle sell a whey product where shellfish isn't processed in the same facility?
ANSWER: Just a bit of background on the allergen law. In 2004, the FDA passed the Food Allergen Labeling and Consumer Protection Act requiring manufacturers of foods and dietary supplements to inform consumers of the major allergens. The eight major allergens include milk, eggs, fish (e.g., bass, flounder, or cod), Crustacean shellfish (e.g., crab, lobster, or shrimp), tree nuts (e.g., almonds, pecans, or walnuts), peanuts, wheat, and soybeans which account for 90 percent of all food allergies. Regarding MAXPRO, we list on the label that the product contains whey protein (derived from milk) as whey is the primary ingredient in the product. We also include the "canned" statement that MAXPRO is manufactured in a facility that processes milk, soy, shellfish, eggs, tree nuts and wheat as an additional level of information. The manufacturer of MAXPRO complies with current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) and does not process shellfish products.
The likelihood of any contamination is extremely rare.

QUESTION: I have heard that creatine is banned, or on the list of banned substances by the NFL and NCAA. Is this true, and if it is a natural product, why would it be on any list of banned substances?
ANSWER: Most of the professional sports organizations have current lists of prohibited substances that their athletes should not use. Each organization has their own specific list for their players and it seems that they are modifications of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) Prohibited List International Standard which is published each year in January.
The vast majority of substances listed are in the category of Anabolic Agents (e.g., anabolic steroids) and Stimulants. The U.S. Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) has a similar list to WADAs. Creatine is not a prohibited substance on either the WADA or USADA list. Additionally, the NFL does not ban the use of creatine, but creatine is a prohibited substance for the NCAA. Although creatine is a natural substance produced by the body and available as a dietary supplement, the NCAA does not allow its use. The position of the NCAA is that creatine enhances muscle building and performance enhancement and may provide a competitive advantage to athletes at those institutions that can afford to provide their student-athletes with the supplement.

QUESTION: I've been a user of creatine monohydrate for some time and have notice many new forms of creatine on the market like creatine ethyl ester, creatine malate, creatine citrate and others. Are these forms any better than the monohydrate?
ANSWER: Many of these new forms of creatine have been introduced with little or no science to back up any claims that are made. Claims like increasing serum and muscle creatine concentrations or improving body composition, muscle mass, strength, and power are not supported by scientific evidence. The vast majority of the now thousands of published studies has been on creatine monohydrate. If there are new forms introduced, there must be clear objective evidence to support the benefits and not just marketing hype. At Max Muscle Sports Nutrition, all our products are formulated using the best science available to select the ingredients with respect to safety, quality and efficacy. For creatine, the perfect example is our new Cx3 product. Cx3 contains the finest forms of creatine available in the world including CreaPure, Creatine MagnaPower (Magnesium Creatine Chelate), and Creatine Pyruvate. CreaPure is an ultrapure creatine monohydrate made in Germany by AlzChem GmbH, produced under a patent protected manufacturing process to prevent any negative byproducts from being formed like creatinine, dicyandiamide and dehydrotriazine. The purity and quality is unsurpassed. Creatine MagnaPower is a fully-reacted creatine monohydrate bonded to magnesium. Magnesium is essential in the conversion of creatine to ATP so it's smart to use this form in our formula. Creatine MagnaPower has been shown to deliver 12% more free creatine to the body than a single serving of just creatine monohydrate. Creatine Pyruvate has also been added as recent studies has shown that this form of creatine has a significant effect on raising blood levels of creatine. This form is supported by published scientific studies. By using Cx3, your body should respond to the benefits in body composition and higher performance.
