Easy Homemade Protein Bars
February 20, 2010
I tried this recipe last night and this morning I had two bars. I think they taste GREAT and they are very moist. The tip I got with it, was to spread a think layer of peanut butter on top and enjoy with a protein drink for a great meal. I used my banana MaxPro in place of the Vanilla or Chocolate they had in the recipe. Yummy! I will be looking forward to these for meals #2 and 4!
Ingredients:
3.5 cups quick oats
1.5 cups powdered non-fat milk
4 scoops protein powder
1 cup sugar free maple syrup
2 egg whites, beaten
1/4 cup orange juice
1 tsp vanilla
1/2 cup applesauce
Directions:
Preheat oven to 325 and spray a 9 X 12 baking dish w/ non-stick spray. Mix oats, powdered milk, and protein powder in bowl and blend well.
In separate bowl, combine eggwhites, oj, applesauce, and the syrup and blend thoroughly.
Stir liquids into dry mix until blended.
Spread batter into pan and bake about 15-20 min. Cut into 10 bars and store in airtight container or freeze.
Nutritional info = cal 157, carbs 23g, protein 15 g, fat .5g, fiber 4g.
I checked them after 10-15 min and I think I took them out around 18. The instructions just said bake until edges are crisp and browned, but I don't like mine too overdone. Then again, I always tell my waitress not to burn the crust at our favorite pizza by the slice joint (which I've been to only once since December!).
Enjoy! |
